SPUserPoll

SPUserPoll is a free poll web part for SharePoint 2007. It allows site users to quickly create polls anywhere in the Site Collection. The poll Web Part is designed to provide a user friendly interface: Important settings and actions are available from within the web part. There is no direct need to work with the SharePoint web part setting menu and poll data is managed from normal SharePoint lists. The results can be presented to the users in colorful charts.

Some of the features

  • WSS & MOSS Compatible
  • Easy interface
  • Create and edit poll questions and answers
  • Information is stored centrally in normal SharePoint lists
  • Expiration date
  • Display the results as counts, percentage or both
  • A wide choice of charts to show the results: Bar, Column, Pie and Doughnut
  • Immediate show poll results after users submit their vote
  • Multiple response options (single answer radio buttons or multiple answers check boxes)
  • Anonymous voting

User feedback

What a fantastic tool! This does (almost) everything we want to do in terms of poll creation that the OOTB SP survey does not. With the ability to hide results until after voting, this will be perfect. Great job!!

Everything works great in WSS! Be sure to read the instructions on how to install because there are a few steps that you must do. Great tool!

Why did I decide to develop this poll web part?

I noticed that a lot of customers would like to have the ability to create a simple question poll at their portal. A standard WSS and SharePoint installation also comes with a polling mechanism as part of the Survey Lists, but these surveys are complicated and require quite some time to configure. The SPUserPoll Web Part allows users to setup a single topic poll within a few minutes.

At the moment there are only a few commercially poll web parts for SharePoint available and they are quite expensive. With SPUserPoll I hope to offer a good and free alternative.

I’m also working on this project to improve my SharePoint skills and to learn more about SharePoint deployment.

How do I get it?

The SPUserPoll project is hosted at the Microsoft CodePlex website. To download and install the software visit the SPUserPoll project site at http://spuserpoll.codeplex.com. Don’t forget to download the guide with detailed installation instructions.
